Moiler Monday

Hello. I Just got back from Reno!

Here are the events of the weekend.

My husband has been busy restoring an old F-100. He was really excited that he got it running and so he attempted to pick me up at the airport in it as a surprise. This is Fiona:

Unfortunately he never made it to the airport. He broke down in Sparks. Then, my brother-in-law brought him our F-150 so he could come get me at the airport. I finished my book in the baggage claim.

Here is where I went wrong. I wore a dress. After the airport, we went back to where Fiona was, and he helped my brother-in-law and my father-in-law try to get the truck running again. Let me tell you how cute I looked in my dress standing next to the truck peeking in at the engine! Yep, good times. After about 10 starts and stops, we finally made it home. Then we had my favorite mexican food in Reno, Murriettas.

The next day, our high school buddy and his family came for a visit. I had never met them and I felt very short. They were all at least 5'7" or taller and it was a family of 3 girls and one boy. The girls also brought their boyfriends who were 6'4" and taller or something freakish like that. My neck got tired looking up at them after awhile. We had spaghetti for dinner that night at my in-laws.

On Sunday, we decided it would be fun to rent tubes and float down the Truckee River. We had never done this before, so we winged it. Me, my husband, our buddy and my brother-in-law threw the tubes in the river and started floating. It never dawned on me that the Truckee River is NOT a lazy river for some reason. It moves fast. And has rapids. And drops. It's actually more like one of those rides at Disney. Needless to say, it was a blast, but there were minor injuries. Like this one:

Turns out my arms are too short to reach the water and both of them got a very bad case of rugburn from trying to paddle my way away from rocks and the shore. I also bruised up both knees and sunburned my legs. It was totally worth it though. I would do that again in a heartbeat.

I flew home this morning. Back to work tomorrow!

A moiler is one who toils. In drudgery. Just for added effect.

Hope everyone had an exciting weekend as well.

Warped Wednesday

Well....

I have slacked off a little this week. My Grandad sent me an e-mail today telling me about his day (love you grandad! and granny!) and that e-mail reminded me that I have not updated all week.

It's been a fairly busy week. I have done actual work - for a change. Here is the rest of the week recapped:

I don't remember anything from Monday besides work.

Tuesday I got to come home early from work. And have Starbucks. And Mexican for lunch.

Today I got to do inspections. And come home at a normal time. And workout.

I need to take a nail file to my nails.

I'm convinced we are entering an ice age because we have yet to reach 90 degree temps. In fact, it's been high 70s for quite some time. Its the end of July. Hope you have a lot of coats.

I am enjoying my new ceiling fan that was installed last Friday by the best ceiling fan installation company in town. It keeps me cool. In the cool weather.

That is all. Hope your week has been great!

Stupefy Saturday

This weekend has been good so far. Yesterday, I had a fabulous chiropractor appointment. He manually adjusted me and afterward I was pretty much zen for the rest of the day. Not even any road rage! My hip felt better and still does. It will admit, it is a little awkward having a strange man touch your butt, but hey its definitely worth it!

Today, went with dad to pick out a ceiling fan for my bedroom. Had lunch at PF Chang's (surprise! not) and then the big weekend event. HARRY POTTER. It was good. They glossed over a whole bunch of stuff in the book, but the movie would have been about 5 hours long if they didn't I guess. Maggie Smith and Alan Rickman were my favorites. So that's it. No more HP. Sad. I might be a tween. sigh. Its better than liking the Twilight series, right?

Tomorrow, I have no plans except to do laundry at some point. And grocery shopping. And ride around in my topless jeep :)

Stupefy is a spell to stun your enemies. Ok, I promise I'm done with HP stuff now.

Enjoy your evening!

Transfiguration Thursday

The week is over!

I watched a movie called Insidious with my brother tonight. Don't watch it unless you want a good laugh at a bad attempt at a horror movie. A la Paranormal Activity. With worse acting. We spent the whole time making fun of the movie - a la Mystery Science Theater 3000.

I was very busy at work today which was a nice change. I think next week is looking good for busyness as well. Lots of sampling stuff going on.

I am sleeping in tomorrow! And then going to my second chiropractor appointment.

I had pizza for dinner. It was grand.

Can you say Harry Potter? Oh yes. That will be happening. I will be geeking out slightly.

Transfiguration is a change in form or appearance.

Swish and Flick!
pretend that didn't just happen....

Off to bed!

Trapezoid Tuesday

Nothing remotely interesting happened to me today.
I got rained on in my jeep. That was fabulous.
The week is officially half over.
I am nearly done with a great book called The Glass Castle.
I made my bed today. Just FYI.
I want to go see a movie.
I've already made my iced coffee for tomorrow. It's in the fridge.
I know you are enthralled.

Tomorrow is Wednesday. Hope its great!

Spaghetti Sunday

No creativity tonight, sorry. But I did eat some yummy spaghetti with some good friends of mine. I also washed my jeep.

Here is what it looked like.

I cannot even begin to convey the amount of dust that was on the inside of it. The outside cleaning was the easy part. It has returned to its former glory with the top down.

Tomorrow, is back to work. Joy.

Also, you know your family is close when your Aunt spends her anniversary weekend on a houseboat with her new husband and her ex husband and his partner. And your mom dates your Aunt's ex husband's brother. Just saying. Happy anniversary auntie!

I hope you know what spaghetti is. If not, I am sad for you.

Goodnight to all,

Sopite Saturday

Today was the day. We went back for round 2 to tackle the forest. You see, the first time we were blocked by snow on almost every road. So we figured, wait until July - it will all be melted right? Well, almost. Take a look.......

Craziness! We even came across a guy on a logging road cutting (kid you not) snow off the road with a chainsaw. Had to turn around and go back. It was 67 degrees. It was a fun day anyway. Tomorrow I must clean the 6 inches of dust that accumulated inside and outside the jeep. And take the top off again.

Sopite means to put to sleep.

Hope your day was fantastic!

Foliose Friday

Hello there.

I would like to introduce you to my friend. I don't think you've met yet. Meet Tassimo.

Tassimo makes all my coffee now. Starbucks who?

I love my ice coffees in the morning. They are a necessity when driving 40 miles to work in the morning.

I saw the chiropractor today. Thanks to those who gave me words of encouragement for that. My hip feels a little better today. I will have to keep going in because my hips are apparently not even. I also helped some different friends move into their new house today. I got a glass of wine out of that one!

Here is the morning sky from yesterday morning. There are some pretty sunrises and sunsets here.

Hope everyone had a great day.

Foliose means leafy.

Trisoctahedron Thursday

Happy Thursday/Friday!

I am done with work for the week - which makes me really happy!

Today I went to help my friends move a fridge and a toolbox into their new home - really excited for them!

Said friend bought me coffee- really excited for me!

Something is wrong with my hip - chiropractor appointment in the morning to hopefully fix it!

Sleeping in the morning!

Talked to my Mom today!

Way better day than yesterday!

Hope everyone had a great day!

Whilom Wednesday

Do you know this woman?

I work with her. She is mean and spiteful and a witch with a b. Her life revolves around her cats. Her life revolves around herself. I think the world revolves around her as well. She is also a man hater.

I did approximately 6 minutes of actual work today. I spent approximately 30 minutes discussing dental problems/teeth cleaning/flossing with the 2 girls nearest to my cubicle. Can't wait for tomorrow.

Tomorrow is my Friday. I have the house *nearly* empty this weekend, so I expect to get a lot accomplished on the quilt. And a bottle of wine. Maybe just the wine.

Whilom means former, or at one time.

Enjoy your evening. More excitement tomorrow.

Titterer Tuesday

Hello.

So this morning, I drove my fun, convertible jeep to the closest Walgreens (I'm sure I was looking cute at 5:20 in the morning to all 3 cars that went by) and stepped out, whipped out my key, and hopped in the drivers seat of...... wait for it....... a minivan.

I remember when I was a teenager. My mother drove a minivan. I said "minivans are so embarrassing" "I'll NEVER drive a minivan"

Guess what I drive to work most days? Oh yes. It's a minivan. I get to cart around people in their 50s. It's thrilling. You know those "The van beckons" commercials? So not true. I'm pretty sure I take on a soccer mom mentality when I drive it too. It's scary.

On the brighter side, I only pay about $90 for gas a month. For over 1200 miles of driving.

It's another one of those Never Say Never stories. C'est la vie.

Anywho, my day was filled with reports and some gobbldygook about how I didn't fill out my timecard right. Really exciting stuff.

A titterer is a person who laughs in a restrained, self-conscious, or affected way, as from nervousness or in ill-suppressed amusement.

See you all tomorrow.

Mordant Monday

Yep, I'm back. Decided today to start this again after a hiatus of forever it seems. Here is what has happened in the past couple of months:

Went to Reno
Went to Denver
Went to Reno
Went to Portland
Went to Northern Idaho
Went to Seattle
Went to Boise

I have officially visited every major city in the Northwest.

Started a quilt:

Thanks to Auntie L! It's a fourth of July quilt. Yes, I know that is today. I am a slacker.

Me and my bro installed a fountain out back:

This rock is REAL. It weighed like 300 pounds, kid you not. It was a *%$#^ to install!

AND yesterday......

I cut and dyed my hair! Eek - it's red! I was going for strawberry blonde. Not sure that actually happened. And I am horrible at self picturing. Yikes.

The top came off of the jeep for summer.
The jeep went on its first off-roading trip.
Not in that order though.

I believe that is everything. Everyone have fun watching fireworks! More tomorrow.....

Mordant means Serving to fix colors in dyeing. Or bitingly sarcastic. You choose.

Free Friday

Yes indeed. I love having three day weekends every week. I feel way more refreshed on Mondays.

So, I apologize for never updating. I just haven't been very motivated. I miss my husband.

Today though, I was very motivated by craftyness! My cousin is due in T minus 10 weeks with a little Abigail and I wanted to get started on making things. I know she probably never reads this blog so I am just going to post about all her stuff below.

I had dinner with my uncle and his family tonight at a restaurant called Bonefish. It was pretty good.

Earlier, I purchased these items:

Too adorable to pass up!

She may not fit into it until October, so it needed a hoodie and some tights, obviously.

Fabric for a carseat cover and car organizer. She wanted it to coordinate with her carseat colors.

Binkie clips!

It was a nice day today - in the 50's. Can't complain about that.

Hope your day was fantastic!

Military Monday

I actually got to do work today! I got a tour of the facility and everything. It was great.

If you would like to know more about where I work, here is the website: UMCD

And you can check out more what I do out there: EPA

Yep, I like it so far. Just not the drive. I think I may have found a carpool though, we'll see if it pans out.

I lived on the edge today. You know all those signs that tell you not to keep your car running while you fill it with gas? Apparently that does not apply when a "professional" is filling your tank. I decided to stop for gas in Oregon on my way home from work. I pull up to the pump and cracked my window just enough to hand the guy my card and tell him I want a fill up. The wind was blowing about 600 miles per hour so I would rather someone else do it. Completely forgot to turn off the engine. The heater was SO very nice. I panic after he has already put the nozzle in. Then I realize, someone in Farmington fills his tank while the engine is running and he hasn't suffered the consequences. Then I feel better. Maybe he's a "professional." The jury is still out.

Then, and I kid you not, this song start playing on the radio:

"Sign, Sign everywhere a sign
Blocking out the scenery breaking my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?"

And remember- long haired freaky people need not apply.

Hope your day was good.

Super Bowl Sunday

So, I feel very old today. My Dad's girlfriend and I went to a Super Bowl party thrown by a family I used to babysit for. Their two boys are now way taller than me. The eldest is driving. Ugh. It's like yesterday they were so little. Time flies huh?

Anyway, I made cinnamon sugar chips and fruit salsa for the party, and it got rave reviews. Here is the recipe:

Cinnamon Sugar Chips
Ingredients:
  • 10" flour tortillas
  • Butter or Pam with butter
  • Cinnamon (to desired taste)
  • Granulated White Sugar (to desired taste)
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spray butter (or spread melted butter) onto tortillas. Mix cinnamon and sugar to desired taste (I like more sugar than cinnamon in mine). Spread cinnamon-sugar mixture over tortillas (coat them well!) and slice into "chips" with pizza cutter. Place onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for about 10-14 minutes or until crispy. Cool on wire rack.

Fruit Salad
Ingredients:
  • Green fruit
  • Yellow fruit
  • Red fruit
  • Blue fruit
  • Whatever fruit you want
  • Granulated White Sugar
  • Lime Juice
Chop up all fruit, add two tbs of lime juice per 4 cups of fruit salsa. Add sugar to taste. Easy - but time consuming!

Just strawberries and kiwi

Add lime! Here I had already added apples and pineapple

Because I've been watching so much HGTV lately, here is my favorite Super Bowl commercial:

Hope you had a fantastic day!

Fairly Friday

Well, hello. I've been a little lacking in this area lately. My mother decided to remind me of that today. Here are some things you should know:
  • My husband filled a trailer of my stuff and drove me to Washington state two weeks ago
  • He stayed for a week while I adjusted to my new job and helped me move into my father's new house
  • I started my new job and have been in training for the past two weeks
  • I am very glad I don't have any training next week and can begin work
  • My commute is 45 minutes each way on highway with no traffic
  • I have Starbucks every morning to make sure I am alert and don't hit any animals or get lost in the insane fog or get blown off the road by the insane wind
  • My father's neighbor has a castle house with a faux moat and faux dungeon
  • Everyone here is very nice, but none of them can drive
  • Working on a military base is extremely different
  • I like learning about our country's past
  • That is all I can really say about work
  • I live within 3 minutes of a Super Target - I have already been there almost every night since I moved in
  • Jeep Wranglers are not wind friendly
  • Jeep Wranglers do not have good gas mileage
  • I still love my Jeep
  • I miss my husband
Here is yesterday's sunset from the porch:

The fence you see belongs to the castle house. I will take pictures of the house later because its pretty funny.

I miss my husband.

Tricky Tuesday

Today, we spent most of our day installing a hitch on the jeep to pull a trailer of my stuff to my new residence. Poor hubby got very frustrated several times. Expletives were used. And yelled. The instructions said it would take 20 minutes. Ha! But he got it in. And we are ready to go in that regard.

I packed some more. 2 more boxes. All that is left is clothing now.

I rearranged the furniture in my bedroom to make the house sell better - take a look:

In order to make the room look bigger, I did the following:
  • Moved the bed in front of the window. It was previously where the palm tree is.
  • Moved the nightstands over with the bed.
  • Pulled the dresser closer to the door, kept it on the wall it was on.
  • Removed the mirror from the dresser, and moved it to the end of the dresser and leaned it against the wall for a decorative look.
  • Moved the TV to the opposite end of the dresser so it can be used while lying in bed or sitting in the seating area.
  • Created a seating area and brought in a floor lamp from the living room.
  • Bought a palm tree to fill the blank wall.
  • Rearranged the curtains to let more light in.
  • Total cost = $30. Only had to buy the palm and its pot.
I love decorating! If I thought I could make any money doing it - I would. But, at least I love my day job.

Hope your day was great!

Modest Monday

I wore a short sleeve t-shirt today. Again. 63 degrees and sunny in January - so nice! Today, I went with a friend of mine to see the movie The Dilemma. It was ok, one of those movies that one should probably wait to see when it comes out on DVD. It was just good to spend some time with her before I leave.

I also did more cleaning and organizing. Today it was under the bathroom sink. Check out my situation:

Yeah, pretty bad.

Here is what it looks like now:

Much better.

All I did was pull out everything I was going to take with me when I leave for my new job and put everything else in little bins. I also threw away all old toiletries I haven't used in a year. I even cleaned out all the drawers and the medicine cabinet. And, I packed up all the stuff from the bathroom I am taking in a box. With shoes. One box down.

Hope your day was beautiful!

Sumptuous Sunday

It's January. It was 62 degrees today. Amazingly warm. Haven't had to turn the heater on in 3 whole days. Love it!

The hubby got himself his first project vehicle yesterday - check it out:

Towed from California by my brother-in-law and his diesel

Had to remove the hick lights on top so it would fit in the garage

Lots of work is needed, but it will keep him busy!

I made lasagna - check it out (click the link):

Best Lasagna Ever - it was yummy, but probably not the best EVER.

Re-filed the filing cabinet - check it out:

The hubby will be doing the bills from now on so I needed to re-organize all the files for him. He is VERY visual, so I color coordinated the different bills and cut the company names from the bill to use in the labels. Looks a lot better.

Hope your day was exciting.

Much Love,
